Evans' 5 TDs lift Owego

From staff reports

A wet and sloppy field Friday night made no difference to Owego sophomore Parker Evans.

Evans scored five touchdowns and had 203 yards of total offense as the Indians spoiled Ithaca's Senior Night with a 40-29 victory in a non-league game between two Section 4 Conference teams.

"He's a great back," said Ithaca coach Ron Amato. "Quick, fast, great athlete. It's tough to cut on this sloppy, muddy turf, but he did it, always running straight ahead."

Evans pushed Owego's lead to 33-23 when he turned a fourth-quarter screen pass into a 63-yard touchdown.

After Ithaca's Alex Johnson connected with Tyler Gillespie on a 63-yard touchdown pass to pull within four, Evans ran 22 yards to a score on the ensuing drive. Harley Edwards' PAT capped the scoring.

"On offense, we took what they gave us," Owego assistant coach Eric Nichols said. "We did a great job of reading blocks and following them."

Ithaca's Johnson completed 19 of 31 passes for a season-high 344 yards and two touchdowns. Wide receiver Nick Masser also cracked the 100-yard receiving mark, catching six passes for 107 yards.

Owego (5-3) plays at Chenango Forks next Saturday in a first round Class B playoff game at a time to be determined. Ithaca is 1-7.
